Green Gift wrap

>> Monday, November 29, 2010

Its time to start wrapping the gifts. Here are some fabulous ideas to gift wrap your presents with items that are already available at home and in nature.

Lets get started.

Use natures bounty to adorn your gifts. Use pine cones, acorns, holly berry and even leaves as gift toppers.

For the next idea you don't have to go any further than your grocery store. These are items we already have in our pantry. Cinnamon sticks, bow tie pasta, lemon slices that have been dried and the good old brown bag make lovely gift wrap.

You can use potato chip bags turned inside out to wrap presents. Really! lol! Guess who came up with this bright idea? Martha Stewart! I am a huge fan of Martha Stewart for only she can make a potato chip bags look that beautiful!

Fresh flowers make great gift toppers.

Fabric is a great alternative to using paper. Have those triangular scarfs that you don't use anymore.Use it to wrap a gift. Dish towels are a great way to wrap wine bottles.Put your sewing skills to good use. I am in love with this idea of wrapping a gift with a shirt and love that white flower brooch!

Burlap seems to be hot this season.Use burlap pouches to wrap small gifts. Check out etsy for the lovely wine bottle bags made of burlap.

If you are a person who loves to save beautiful wrapping paper only to realize it is too crumpled or torn in a few places to cover an entire gift, here is a solution for you.Cut the gift wrap into strips and add it to a gift wrapped in brown paper.Use those paper and fabric scraps from your craft projects to make lovely gift tags.

Newspaper is great way to cover gifts. You can use the comic section of the newspaper to wrap kids gifts. It looks so retro! Use maps to wrap travel related gifts. Don't believe me! look at the pics below to inspire you.

Do you have a little artist in the house? Use your kids art to wrap gifts.

Have an old sweater that you no longer love. They make great gift wrap. Throw that sweater in the washer at warm temperature to felt it. Use it to make beautiful felt flowers which can be used as gift toppers.

Use baby food bottles, jars, tins and match boxes covered in beautiful paper for those small gifts. Buttons and ponytail holders can be used to embellish the gifts. Use parchment paper to wrap those homemade cookies and cake.Add a ribbon and you are done.

Think beyond ribbon.Use twine, raffia and yarn to wrap your gifts. How fun those yarn pom pom balls.

Recycle and Reuse! You don't have to buy fancy wrapping paper to make your gifts stand out. A little bit of creativity and lots of love goes a long way.

DIY: Crate and Barrel replica ornaments

>> Wednesday, November 24, 2010

I saw these ornaments in Crate and Barrel and thought they were adorable. I knew it would be a fun project to work on and make these myself.

Here is the inspiration.

Here is my homemade version.

They look perfect with the bird ornaments that I purchased at Crate and Barrel. A wood land forest theme. Just need to add some pine cones and squirrels.

Here is what you need.Glass paint, Clear glass ornaments, Martha Stewart fine bronze glitter, Elmer's clear glue and fine white beads.

These were easy to make. Just requires a little bit of patience.

For the Christmas trees ornament.
You add one layer at a time. First paint the red circles. Next paint the white Christmas trees. To create the glittering Christmas trees draw the trees with clear Elmer's glue and sprinkle the fine glitter. Remove the excess with a fan brush (was not sure what to call it .A paint brush with fan shaped bristles). This works really good. Next add the clear glue to the white Christmas tree and sprinkle the tiny white beads. Easy as that!

Note:Let the paint dry completely before you add glitter.fine glitter will stick to anything that is even slightly wet.

For the Winter forest ornament
I drew the trees free hand with white paint. You could use glass etching solution to do the white tree if you have it. Let it dry. Then draw trees with clear glue. Add glitter and remove the excess.

It took a lot of time but was well worth in the end when my daughter said "Mommy they look beautiful". That's all I needed to hear.

Do you love birds? I am not a big fan of birds in real life but when it comes to decor I have to confess I love birds!!

Bird motifs have been popular in home decor for quite some time.Whether you are a country gal, or like something more simple and modern, there are a lot of options to choose from.

Be it Throw pillows , lamps, dinnerware, fabric ,art, kids room decor birds seem to be flocking everywhere.
I plan to have a bird art gallery wall in my family room. Still a work in progress. Maybe one or two perched on the mantel.

Here are some of my favorite things.

Throw pillows I am in love with.

What lovely lamps! Sure to spark a conversation.

Aren't these bird mobiles the most adorable thing you could add to the nursery! They steal my heart.

Add a bit of whimsy to your dinnerware. I love the soup bowls with the black birds.

Add some pattern to your wall with these vinyl decals.

Everything else from holiday decor to art and wall hooks.
