No tile backsplash ideas -- part 1

Adding a backsplash is a great way to upgrade the look of your kitchen! When we think of backsplash, we think of tile. Tile looks great but can be an expensive affair. There are many more alternatives available today that can save you hard earned money, all while adding tonnes of style to your kitchen.

Wall paper can give you a designer look that you want for much less money and less effort. It can change the look of your kitchen in a couple of hours!

But Wall paper can get  dirty when you use it as a backsplash in the kitchen. Here are a few things you would like to know when using a wallpaper backsplash. I got this info from HGTV.

  1. To get the best buy for your buck, check out the closeout section of your wallpaper store. There is not a lot of surface to cover, so you might get what you are looking for at a much lesser price.
  2. Use polyurethane to coat the wall paper, so that it is easier to clean.
  3. If your cabinets do not go all the way to the top, let the wall paper continue to the ceiling, just like in image 2 in the collage above.

Cork is great alternative. You can use cork floor tiles. If you have the patience you can also create a backsplash with wine cork stoppers. Your backsplash can now function as a bulletin board too! A great place to pin your menu, recipes and To Do list. You might want to use a sealant to protect it from splashes.
Landeeseelandeedo decided to stencil her backsplash. Such a brilliant idea! I love the quaterfoil stencil that she used. Who says you cannot have art/pictures in the Kitchen!

Beadboard looks great in a country kitchen. You even get wallpaper that looks like beadboard.

Do you want to know more great ways to dress up your backsplash? Hit the follow button, so you do not miss part 2.

  6. I liked the idea of continuing the wallpaper to the bulkhead above the cabinets like in picture 2 with the trees wallpaper. Beautiful look! I would love to change my back splash because it is avocado green tile but I know it would have a domino effect to the entire kitchen and it's not as bad as it sounds...

  7. Such a creative idea PLUS way less of a commitment! Using a geometric pattern can almost create a faux tile appearance too. Thanks for sharing!

  8. i often have my clients do beadboard for backsplashes - great for farmhouse or nantucket feel! i guarantee it's a lot easier than doing a stencil there - although that quatrefoil pattern looks awesome!

  9. These are all great. I'm so afraid to tile. Stenciling seems way easier and it may be nice to have something less permanent.

  10. I painted my kitchen back splash with black chalkboard paint. It was supposed to be a temporary fix but we love it so much we're keeping it!

  14. I made a backsplash out of old mirrors. The mirrors were those super cheap mirrors that are about 48x13, a little molding above and below to fill out the area like a picture frame and I had an easy to clean light, reflecting back splash in a tiny kitchen.

  15. Hi...I'm visiting from Inspiration Friday and am a new follower. I have a tile backsplash now but would LOVE to have beadboard. I know it's going to be a big mess tearing out the tile but I really want to do it. Hopefully I'll get up my nerve soon! I had a quick question which I’d prefer to ask if
you don't mind. I was curious to understand the way you center yourself and clear your thoughts just before writing. I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas available. I do take pleasure in writing nonetheless it just may seem like the first 10 to fifteen minutes are wasted just racking your brains on how to start off. Any ideas or recommendations? Enjoy it!
